Botox Preparation
Preparing for your Botox appointment is generally low maintenance, however, we recommend the following tips to consider prior to your appointment:
Come to your appointment with a clean face or minimal makeup.
Workout before your Botox treatment, as you will want to avoid any vigorous exercise for the rest of the day following your treatment.
Avoid blood thinning medications like ibuprofen, Advil, naproxen, Aleve, or aspirin, fish oil, Vitamin E, or garlic for at least 24 hours. Tylenol is a better alternative and does not increase the risk of bruising/bleeding.
Avoid excessive alcohol 24 hours prior to reduce the risk of bruising
Avoid excess caffeine the day of to minimize the risk of bruising. We see patients come in with their iced coffees all the time, and it’s best to start sipping it right after your Botox session!
Make sure you schedule any lash appointments, eyebrow microblading, facials, hair appointments, spray tans, or massages before your treatment or wait at least 1-2 weeks after your Botox treatment to avoid any potential interference with your results.
Botox After-Care Tips
Following your treatment, be sure to stay upright and avoid touching/rubbing your face for 4 hours.
Refrain from applying makeup immediately after your treatment. After 4 hours, it is OK to apply makeup with gentle patting or blending later on that day.
Avoid any facials, massages, or permanent makeup to the eyebrows for 1-2 weeks following your treatment.
You will begin to notice results within 3-7 days (everyone is different). The results are gradual as the Botox relaxes the muscles. Be patient! Some muscle areas kick in faster than others, so any asymmetries (usually very mild) can show up one day and resolve on its own the next day.
It takes 14 days for your Botox results to fully settle. This is when you can come in for a touch up if needed. We are happy to squeeze you in at your earliest convenience if that is the case. Touch ups are usually a quick 10 minute appointment.
Results typically last 3-4 months. Mild movement will begin to return around the 10-12 week mark, but your skin will still look great. Everyone is different with how quickly they metabolize Botox, but if you desire longer lasting results, we are happy to discuss strategies on how to maximize the duration of your treatment!
We recommend coming in 3-4 times per year to maintain your results, however, it is not a requirement. If you forego your Botox treatment, results will gradually wear off and skin will return to normal around the 4 month mark.
